I focused on tongs among hand tools. It is kitchen tongs used when people eat a salad or pick up light food in the kitchen.
I wanted to convey the grotesqueness I felt to the audience by grafting the feeling I received with the tongs. When I saw surrealism art, I got grotesque and mismatched feelings with reality. Then, I searched surrealism art with animals as the theme and representative surrealism objects. Firstly, I was inspired by mice. Although mouse existence is weird, I thought that combining mouse and kitchen tongs cause mismatched feelings sufficiently. However, through the developments, I felt that the appearance of a frog looks good on grotesque. Therefore, I changed the topic focus to frogs.
Frogs’ appearance, texture, and colours often can get people’s unlikeable. Also, people don’t want to touch it. Besides, the jumping gesture of the frog often makes people surprised.
I did sketch the overall body shape of the Jumping frog. Then, I studied the frogs’ hand feature, a representative frog’s feature. Firstly, I tried to use the body line to the fulcrum part but, I thought it was not helpful. So, I used the frog’s hands and jumping feature.
This changed with the making of the making model.
